Luke 11:5-8 "And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’? I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs."
This is a beautiful parable about prayer!
I like that the man says, "lend me 3 loaves."
Good things often come in 3's in the bible.
For example:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
Righteousness, peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost;
Power and love and a sound mind;
Miracles, Signs and Wonders, etc.
Anything worth having is worth fighting for and I think we can over complicate prayer, but the way Jesus taught it was very simple.
I have decided to compress my prayer list to 3 main things. 3 things that I'm going to go after and persist in prayer for. 3 main things that I'm going to see, and I wont stop praying until it's done!
God is just looking for some persistence and perseverance. He WANTS to answer prayer. In fact it's his good pleasure to give us these things (unlike the man in the story who gave the bread reluctantly).
But faith and persistence is key.
What I also like is that this man was asking for bread for his friend on his journey.
We all have friends and family on a journey to eternity. And if we are to help them and win them to Christ, we need to get bread in the secret place. We need to be praying and receiving fresh power and fresh bread from heaven, in order that we can minister to those close to us!
Prayer:
Father thank You for the key of persistence. Help me to keep it simple and stay focused. I'm after 3 loaves of bread, whether it's: Breakthrough in church, Breakthrough in my family, Breakthrough in my neighbroughood, or Breakthrough personally.
I'm coming after you God! In Jesus name Amen!
