Matt Richards
Revelation 2:10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.”
Sometimes my children have selective hearing. If I tell them I have ice cream, they hear it from afar off. But If I tell them that it's time for bed, they just can't seem to hear me. You know I am also like that with God. I want to hear positive things. Affirmation that He is proud of me that the future is bright. But you know here the Spirit is talking to the church and is saying, "be faithful" even unto death. He is saying you're gonna go through some trials, you're going to suffer, you're going to be chucked in prison but be faithful to death. Wait, hold on, that's not what I want to hear! That can't be God. I want to hear three steps to a successful life now.. "Not take up your cross and follow me." So we block out the Holy Spirit's voice. He that has an ear..let him hear what the Spirit says. You know I'm fed up with people preaching what the crowds want to hear. Timothy says, in the last days they will have 'itching ears and turn away from the truth to fables.' The question is what is the Holy Spirit saying to me right now? What is the Holy Spirit saying to the church right now? What is the Holy Spirit saying to you? Let's ask God, no matter what it is that we would not have selective hearing, but have ears not just to listen but to hear. Prayer:
Father forgive me for switching off to things You say that I don't want to listen to. I choose to listen to Your voice today in Jesus' name Amen.
