Sister, Girlfriend, or Wife?

Matt Richards

Genesis 26:6-7 So Isaac stayed in Gerar. And the men of the place asked him about his wife, and he said, She is my sister; for he was afraid to say, She is my wife—[thinking], Lest the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah, because she is attractive and is beautiful to look upon.

You know Isaac was doing real good up until this point.

But he compromised and said Rebekah was was his sister, not his wife. Because she was beautiful, he was frightened they would kill him. He just didn't want the aggro.

You know today it's easy for Christians, for the church even to pretend that we are just the sister of Jesus.

When He calls us to be the Bride.

We can just tell everyone we are just mates with Jesus or it's just something we go to on a sunday, because we are frightened of persecution.

But Jesus is not looking for a girlfriend or a sister: but a bride. A sold out committed bride that is not ashamed or frightened of anyone but says, "I belong to Jesus".

A girlfriend or sister likes the chocolates and the presents, but lacks intimacy.

A wife has eyes for no other. A wife is exclusive, set apart.

Some people appear so committed to Jesus in private or in church, but in worldly company they deny their commitment or exclusivity for fear.

When the world is looking at us; even threatening us with anti-Christ beliefs:

I am not ashamed to say I believe the whole of the Bible. I am not ashamed; to be sold out for Jesus.

How about you?

Sister, Girlfriend, or Wife.

Prayer:

Father help me to live sold out for Jesus. Help me not to be ashamed and help me not to compromise my relationship today in Jesus' name Amen.
